Celebrating 75 years of Effective Change
Ms. Conseio P. Anocleto - Faculty, Math & Science Department

Welcome everyone to the 75th Anniversary of Bacolod Tay Tung High School. This is a grand occasion, an opportunity to reconnect with people who have been involved over the years, to meet new friends and to celebrate the future.

Surviving seventy five years in the highly competitive world of education let alone becoming a byword in the said field is no mean feat for Tay Tung High School. So congratulations on your Diamond Anniversary and may your mission and vision respond wholeheartedly and enthusiastically to the needs, not only of the Chinese but also of the entire community. More power and God bless!

Long before I became a Math & Science teacher of Tay Tung High School in the 80's, the school had already been carving a name in Math & Science. The Physics class of the late Mr. Jose Olvido, whom we used to call "Daddy", was a recipient of several awards in science fair competitions locally and nationally.

In Math, Tay Tung's name was always on top of the list in MTAP and PMO Math challenges and competitions. Through the years, Tay Tung students have brought honors to the school, to the region and to the country as well. Worthy of note lately, are the International Math whiz Jimmy F. Ong, Jr. and Thomas T. Dy who reaped awards in the 5th World Youth Mathematics Competition and Junior Math Olympiad in China in 2004 respectively. Curriculum Reforms have also changed through the years, from Secondary Education Development program (SEDP) to Revised Basic Education (RBEC) of today. The improvement of the curriculum is a continuing process, and the challenge to the schools is to experiment with ways of delivering the program in the most effective and efficient manner. So, to keep pace with Math and Science as the students marched on , the faculty underwent seminars, trainings, schooling etc to be upgraded and updated. The school facilities like laboratories were renovated and equipped to meet the needs of Science and Math innovations. To enhance the Math program, Business Math, Statistics, Trigonometry and Basic Calculus were added.

Our dedication, determination and hardwork bore fruit for, modesty aside, the Math & Science Program of Tay Tung High School now is one of the best in Bacolod City. For this, I give credit to teachers, past and present whose worthy contributions are no less significant. They have made possible the height our achievements have reached a thing that we are very proud of at present. Service in the name of Math and Science has been their battlecry. And so for the 75th anniversary of Tay Tung, expect new, creative and interactive exhibits and activities like the Planetarium, Robotics and the Physics Olympics, to name a few.

We know the best is yet to come for Math and Science in our school and we do hope and pray that it will not be too far. This, of course, will only be possible and be turned into a reality through the concerted effort of the school and the community.
