Scholastic Book Fair / National Book Week Celebration

The National Book Week Celebration with the theme: "Bata, bata halina't magbasa," was highlighted by the Scholastic Book Fair, which was held last November 20-24, 2006 at Bacolod Tay Tung High School . This celebration was full of fun and activities. Scholastic Book Fair was open with ribbon cutting ceremony headed by Mrs. Dy Kian Bee together with the Supervisors, Liaison Officer and Librarian. It adds more fun when Clifford and Geronimo gave their dance number. The Book Fair was opened to all students, teachers, staffs and parents for free reading and even buy the books they wanted.

The following activities gave more excitement to the students, where there was a trivia everyday that all students participated. They can also wrote or express themselves in the fREADom wall, and we also had the memorabilia where the old favorite books of the teachers and staffs were displayed. Students showed their cooperation in our newspaper drive contest. We also had the bookworm contest, story telling for the Pre-school, story-making contest and search for the most outstanding library book borrowers. The Scholastic had their "guess how many" contest where students were challenged to guess how many nips were inside the bottle and classroom challenge. The Scholastic Book Fair sponsored the prizes and tokens for all the activities.

The Scholastic Book Fair also gave our students the opportunity to browse and read their books for free through their classroom visit program. They help our school encourage and promote the love of reading to the students. They displayed lots of good quality and award winning books that motivated, educated, and entertained students, and at the same time helped them widen their knowledge. They also had many good quality books for teachers, which can helped and gave them additional new ideas in their teaching strategies and activities. They also had books for parents, which can give them new ideas and approach on how to help their children in their studies.

The Library is entitled to receive the Library Book Reward Program of Scholastic Book Fair, which is ten percent (10%) of their total sales. This Book Fair, we received 44 books worth P8, 253.00. The school also received 45 books worth P6, 380 plus 2 book hangers for the newspaper drive and 24 books worth P4, 805 for the prizes. The Kinder department received 16 books worth P2, 800 for the classroom challenge, 18 books for the story telling trivia prizes and seven teachers received P200 worth of books each for their tokens. This book rewards helped increase our library book collections and gave additional books to the students to read.

We are very grateful for the Scholastic Book Company for being part of our learning program.
